This animated short is the outcome of an animation course I took alongside my foundation diploma. It was based on an anecdote of my mother's, describing what she came to know of the life of a woman she met in county Galway, Ireland.
The Magdalene laundries were founded by the Roman catholic church in Ireland as asylums for what were deemed to be fallen women, as time went on however, far from being sanctuaries for prostitutes and such; for a growing number of women, from more varied walks of life, they became forced labour camps. Their new life of piety commonly amounted to unpaid labour.
